1888

8.2

Casamorati · 2013

Floral · Sweet · Spicy

Casamorati 1888 is a floral-oriental men's fragrance that sets the spice of saffron and carnation against sweet neroli and warm sandalwood. It opens with Persian saffron, carnation, coriander and green pepper, a spicy, slightly sharp start. Moroccan neroli and Indonesian ylang-ylang bring a soft floral heart, and Mysore sandalwood, patchouli and amber settle the scent onto a woody, sweet, resinous base. Longevity is rated strong and sillage good. Most voters pick autumn and winter, with summer well behind. It leans towards evenings and nights out; most voters read it as masculine, though a fair share find it feminine. Boadicea the Victorious Ardent and Xerjoff Fars have a close profile.

Oud

7.9

John Varvatos · 2014

Sweet · Spicy · Woody

John Varvatos Oud is a spicy, smoky men's fragrance that leans towards autumn and winter evenings. Longevity is good and sillage moderate, so it stays fairly close to the skin. Most voters pick fall and winter, and evening and night out are the occasions it suits best. Most see it as masculine, with a classic side too. It opens dry and slightly green with juniper berry, tobacco and clary sage. In the heart, clove, cinnamon, saffron and cardamom bring the spice, softened by rose and jasmine. The base of oud, myrrh, frankincense, black leather and amber settles into a sweet, resinous, woody warmth. The smoky, leathery edge stays present throughout.

Baghdad ٢

8.7

Maison Anthony Marmin

Floral · Spicy · Woody

Maison Anthony Marmin Baghdad ٢ is a dense, smoky men's fragrance that sets spicy, woody and leathery tones against an oriental sweetness. It opens with caramel, spices and henna, so the first impression is sweet and spicy. In the heart, honey, rose and Persian saffron join woody notes, and the floral side never takes over as the scent deepens. It dries down on Indian oud, leather and sandalwood, with a warm, animalic, smoky finish. Longevity is rated strong and sillage good, and most voters score both highly. The heavy, full build suits cooler weather and evenings. It reads masculine, and its profile is close to Guerlain Cuir Intense and Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud Aswad.

Royal Platinum

8.1

Charriol · 2012

Floral · Sweet · Spicy

Charriol Royal Platinum is a sweet, spicy and smoky men's fragrance built around Persian saffron, chili and oud. It opens sharp and spicy with Persian saffron and chili. The heart brings together Somalian frankincense, Damask rose and leather, where the floral side is overshadowed by a leathery, resinous feel. Oud, benzoin and amber in the base sweeten it and tie it to an oriental warmth. Voters rate its longevity and sillage as good, though the number of votes is small. With its spicy, smoky and sweet structure it reads masculine. Chopard Black Incense Malaki and Giorgio Armani Armani Privé - Cuir Noir have a close profile.
